This privacy policy describes how NetAPI ("NetAPI," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects information about visitors to netapi.io and customers who purchase NetAPI optical transceivers. We aim for plain language; if anything is unclear, email us at privacy@netapi.io.
1. Information we collect
We collect three categories of information:
- Information you provide to us — when you place an order, contact support, request a quote, or open an RMA. This includes your name, business email, shipping address, billing details, phone number where you provide one, and the technical content of any support communication.
- Information collected automatically — when you visit netapi.io we log the page URLs you request, your IP address, browser user-agent, and timestamps, for service operation, error monitoring, and abuse prevention.
- Information from third parties — payment processors (e.g., Shopify) return order confirmation metadata. We do not receive or store full payment card numbers; those remain with the processor.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
netapi.io uses essential cookies to maintain your shopping cart and your authenticated session, and analytics cookies to understand site usage in aggregate. We do not run third-party advertising cookies and we do not sell visitor data to advertisers.
3. How we use information
- To fulfill orders, ship products, and process returns and warranty claims.
- To respond to technical-support inquiries.
- To send transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping notifications, RMA updates).
- To send marketing communications, but only to addresses that have explicitly opted in or that belong to existing customers (with a clear unsubscribe path in every message).
- To operate, debug, and improve the site and our products.
- To comply with legal obligations and to protect against fraud or abuse.
4. Who we share information with
- Payment processors (Shopify, Stripe where applicable) to process orders and refunds.
- Shipping carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, USPS) to deliver orders.
- Service providers that operate parts of our infrastructure (cloud hosting, email delivery, analytics) under data-processing agreements that limit their use of the information.
- Legal authorities when required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties for advertising.
5. Data retention
Order and warranty records are retained for the duration of the 5-year advance-replacement warranty plus the period required by tax and corporate-records law (typically 7 years in the United States). Marketing data is retained until you unsubscribe.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@netapi.io from the address associated with your account. We respond within 30 days.
EU and UK residents: NetAPI is the data controller for purposes of GDPR and UK GDPR. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA / CPRA; we honor verified requests on the same timeline.
7. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including TLS for data in transit and encrypted storage at rest. No internet-connected system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
8. International transfers
NetAPI is headquartered in the United States. If you contact us or place an order from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the U.S. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page and reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
